The National Geographic Society has been investing in bold people and transformative ideas since we awarded our first grant in 1890.

As the Society enters a strategic planning process — and in recognition of the challenges of conducting fieldwork during the COVID-19 pandemic — we have decided to pause most of our grantmaking opportunities following the October 21 deadline.

This will give us the opportunity to think strategically about how our grantmaking can create the greatest impact in illuminating and protecting the wonder of our world, in alignment with the Society’s mission and vision.

We look forward to continuing our legacy by funding a diverse community of changemakers from around the world.

Current Opportunities

We will continue to accept applications for our COVID-19 Remote Learning Emergency Fund for Educators and our COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists (through Jan. 31). Please see below for more information.

COVID-19 Remote Learning Emergency Fund for Educators

The National Geographic Society recognizes that educators, who are among the many dedicated individuals on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, are pioneering new ways of teaching so that students can continue learning.

COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists

As COVID-19 continues to evolve and impact communities around the globe, the National Geographic Society has launched an emergency fund for journalists all over the world who wish to cover COVID-19 within their own communities.
