Absent from large areas within their distributional range. When present, density often <1/km² (T. Butynski and Y. de Jong, pers. obs.). In favoured habitats they can be found in concentrations of 30 or 40 animals within a small area (Kingdon 1971). The threats to this species are not well known. However, it occurs in an area of extensive, suitable habitat which appears not to be under significant threat. Subject to some hunting for meat, like the Southern African Spring-hare. Read More
